For Fall - Mr. Ned of Fifth Avenue (by way of Mad Men)
An improved, up-to-date seasonal advertisement for this famous New York City tailor. Mr. Ned specified the cut and design of the disembodied-suit illustration, right down to the smallest detail (as a tailor should.) Specific reference was made to how tastes have evolved since the TV show “Mad Men” became popular.
The handmade look of the piece hopefully evokes the Mad Men-era style of ad-illustrating without seeming dated. You can see some of my 1950s inspirations, included here. I cut out the cloth swatches myself, drafted and painted all the various elements separately on heavy illustration board, and finished the piece digitally.
The paint used was Winsor & Newton Gouache Designer Colors. The same paints I’ve used for 13 years.
